LEADELL Pilv Law Office attorney Oleg Matvejev’s comment on the legal regulation of piracy in Estonia
The editor of Russian Postimees turned to LEADELL Pilv Law Office attorney Oleg Matvejev, for a comment on the legal regulation of piracy in Estonia. The attorney explained that copyright area is indeed regulated by law in Estonia. “I mean for example the liability through the civil court particularly in the claim for compensation for loss of earnings, as well as the prohibition on the further distribution of any unlawful publications. In rare cases, criminal liability can also be provided.”
If a person who situates in Russia finds that their economic copyrights are being infringed in Estonia then they have the right to turn to Estonian court in accordance with the Estonian-Russian Legal Assistant Agreement.
