Article „Termination of employment contract on the example of state and Estonian Air: pressure on employees, cash payments“ by Epp Lumiste and Häli Jürimäe
On 17 December 2015 the Delfi news portal published an article „Termination of employment contract on the example of state and Estonian Air: pressure on employees, cash payments“ by attorneys-at-law Epp Lumiste and Häli Jürimäe.
In the article, with regard to the termination of activities of the national airline company Estonian Air, the authors analyse the behaviour of the Estonian state as an employer upon redundancy of employees of the mentioned company. The standpoint of the authors is that the state as a major shareholder of Estonian Air should be a role model in treating employees. At the same time the notices submitted to the employees indicate questionable measures for termination of employment contracts and ungrounded requests to satisfy claims in cash. The article provides a reminder for employers for correct behaviour in a redundancy situation. For the protection of employees’ interests, the authors provide an overview of employees’ rights upon termination of work relation.
